So, I watched a couple of movies this week, I'll give you a brief:
Max Payne
Oh, my God! I mean, I knew it wasn't going to be great, but... Anyway, I went to see it just because it's Max Payne, and to tell you the truth it wasn't really bad, I would say that it was a perfect mediocrity. I left the cinema and I didn't hate the film, I couldn't remember anything particularly bad about it, but I couldn't remember anything good also. In my opinion John Moore wanted to keep the atmosphere of the game, and at the same time make it more "Movieable". The result is he got lost in all this process.
I don't know how they trust directors like him with these kinds of budgets. I've seen another one of his films, the remake of The Omen, and my feelings were exactly the same: Empty!
W.
I really liked the film. It's just that it shows Bush as I always suspected he was. I never thought that he was a bad guy, just... well, not the brightest guy for the job. I mostly enjoyed the performances, especially Jeffrey Wright, Josh Brolin and Richard Dreyfuss. Also it's actually an enjoyable, rather lightweight movie, which was not at all what I was expecting.
Burn After Reading
I guess after last year's success, everyone was expecting a masterpiece from the Coen Brothers, which Burn... is not. It is good though, the performances are very good from the all-star cast, and it had some moments where I laughed my guts out. It's just that when I saw the trailer I thought it would be funny all the way through. They also have a comedy in their CV (Big Lebowski) which I guess will always haunt them, cause people will compare it with every other comedy they make.
P.S. I'm in the process of watching the "...Apes" franchise, I've currently watched 3.5 films (Planet, Beneath, Escape and half of Conquest), but I'll write a full review when I finish all of them. Quite interesting I must say...
