So, I missed that one on the cinemas. To be honest, I was always watching X Files, since they began, but I was never a big follower. I really liked them, but I never tried to keep up with them, or watch every episode. I saw the trailer for this movie, and it was a nice thing, I felt it like traveling back to my child years. As I said, I missed it on cinemas, so I downloaded it yesterday and watched it.
I'd heard a lot of bad comments about it and I wanted to see it so I can judge it myself. I didn't remember a lot from the series' plot or how it ended (I also missed the last 2-3 seasons I think) and this is where the movie succeeds. It works even for people who have never seen the series, you don't need to know any background, whatever is needed is presented throughout the film.
I also liked the performances and the chemistry between Maulder and Scully, but I guess you can expect that, they worked for 10 years with each other! The direction and photography wasn't bad either, though not anything spectacular.
Now about the plot... The film moves in a lot more grounded plotlines, it felt more like a detective film, with very little elements of supernatural. And the whole story wasn't anything special, it was a nice one, it kept you going through the film, but the best thing I could say is that it was actually a 2-hour episode of the series, nothing more, nothing less.
All in all, I think if you liked the series you'll enjoy the movie, but after 5 years I suppose you, and me, expect more than the movie can deliver.
